Outcomes data shared in February by alumni and career services explained why the University of Richmond’s landed at No. 6 ranking on the Princeton Review’s “Best Schools for Internships” list in its 200 Best Value Colleges for 2020 report — and why it matters.
Nearly nine out of 10 students in the Class of 2020, or 89%, participated in some kind of summer experience during their undergraduate years. The top industry areas were finance, social impact, marketing, government, and research. The research category includes a significant amount of on-campus research conducted in close partnership with faculty.
These experiences took them far and wide. Students in this year’s graduating class interned in 52 countries, 396 cities, and 45 states, with Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia making up the top five states, along with Washington, D.C. Internship sites included a who’s who of employers of choice, including NASA, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Google, Amazon, the U.S. Department of State, and numerous top financial firms.
Post-graduation data for the Class of 2019 shows where experiences like these can lead. According to survey responses, within one year of graduation, 24% of Spiders are enrolled in graduate school and, of those looking for employment, 94% have landed jobs.
