Pitt Field got a summer makeover that promises to please players and fans alike.

Down the left field line near Westhampton Lake, construction continues on a new indoor batting and pitching practice facility that can be used by players year-round.

“The indoor batting cages are a game changer for the program,” Tracy Woodson, head coach, said. “The players do not have to leave campus, as was the case in the past when we had bad weather. They have their brand-new space to get better whenever they have the extra time. That’s not even mentioning our ability to use this space for practices.”

The other biggest change is the addition of a plaza in right field for fans. It includes a terrace where they can bring their own chairs to watch Spider baseball. There are also benches in front of the terrace and turf berms that provide additional seating options, and new bathroom facilities for fans.

“Fans can pull up a chair and not have to worry about cars driving by in the parking lot, and the view is spectacular,” Woodson said.

“There were a lot of alums and parents and friends of the program who helped in raising these funds, and I want to thank all of them for giving our student-athletes these gifts and opportunity.”

The team’s 2022 season ended in the Atlantic 10 Tournament final, one win away from forcing a winner-take-all title game with a bid to NCAA regionals on the line.
